Two items with similar names can serve different builds. Read the entire tooltip before equipping, selling, trading or using an item as a crafting ingredient.
Read a tooltip in this order
- Compatibility: class, advancement, level and required attributes.
- Base purpose: weapon damage, magic power, armor or another slot-specific effect.
- Enhancement: the item's +level and additional options.
- Special effects: Excellent lines, set bonuses, sockets and other modifiers.
- Condition: durability, trade restrictions or expiry where present.
Common item families
| Family | How to evaluate it |
|---|---|
| Normal | Compare basic values and useful options with your existing item. |
| Excellent | Read each Excellent option; the label alone does not tell you which bonuses rolled. |
| Ancient / set | Check the required pieces and which set bonuses are actually active. |
| Socket | Inspect the number and contents of sockets, not only the empty equipment. |
| Mastery equipment | Check its class, tier, requirements and upgrade route. |
These labels are a reading guide, not a universal ranking. A complete useful set can compete differently from one isolated higher-tier piece.
Compare a replacement properly
Write down what you gain and lose. Replacing a set piece may break a bonus; changing a weapon may remove a usable attack; a new damage type may not help your chosen skill. Test the whole equipped setup rather than treating each slot independently.
Durability matters
Inspect and repair equipment before difficult content. If performance suddenly changes, check condition alongside buffs and skills. Different item categories can have different repair behavior, so read the relevant repair option before assuming every item is restored in the same way.
Before selling or combining
Double-check the item's class and options. A crafting window may accept a valuable item as an ingredient even when you intended to keep it. See jewels and crafting, socket equipment and trading.
